waking up in style

The hubs and I have a teensy-weensy little disagreement about exactly what belongs on a nightstand. My nightstand: lamp, flowers, black and white baby photo of my twins, autographed Audrey Hepburn movie still, and a Jefferson cup. His nightstand: lamp, a Dale Lindman painting, photo of me (sweet!), cordless telephone (necessary evil, I suppose) … and a ginormous iPhone docking station which also serves as his alarm clock. Seriously? I suppose the good news is that the iPhone docking station replaced the even more ginormous iPad docking station … which appears to have taken up semi-permanent residence in our kitchen. Because everyone needs an iPad by the toaster, right?

My belief, of course, is that everyday objects can be attractive – and I like my own rooms to stay (at least some version of) “magazine styled.” Other than the toddler chaos, of course … and, yes, that drives me bonkers. Note to self: It must be difficult being married to a decorator. But why not an alarm clock like this?

Or how about this one?

Somehow, vintage is just that much more attractive. Would this bedroom-seen-‘round-the-world be the same with a huge docking station in the photo instead of the petite vintage clock?

Don’t. Think. So.

By the way, this fab room from Domino became an after-the-fact inspiration for my twins’ “big boy” room. Don’t worry. I promise it doesn’t look prissy.

What’s on your nightstand?
