A colourful welcome
The folks at Landscape Ontario were kind enough to give me a sneak peek of their plans pre-show, which I shared here on the site. 40 companies, 200 volunteers and dozens of students helped turn their ideas into a living, breathing reality. I loved the willow trees with their delicate twinkle lights, the living wall with its 4,000 colourful kalanchoes and the “piano keys” which tie into the music theme and show what can be done with green roofs.

Since the 1960s to the mid-1980s, aluminium has been the most popular choices in window frames. However, with the introduction of PVC window frames in the market, a lot of homeowners started to prefer them over aluminium windows; but in recent years, aluminium has started gaining popularity once again in the window industry. This is primarily because it can offer several benefits that cannot be offered by PVC window frames and other types of windows. Read on to find out more about these two types of windows.

Making colour work for your kitchen

Choosing the right colour scheme for any room in the household is a difficult decision and kitchens are no exception.

The scheme will greatly depend on the size of your kitchen and what style you are going for.

If your hub of the home is on the cosy side then try to stay away from too many solid blocks of bold colour, as this will make the room appear even smaller so use neutral tones.

For a contemporary kitchen design, areas of vivid colours will give the room a modern look.

Blocks of neutral tones can be contrasted with stronger colours, whether these are on a separate wall or used on kitchen cabinets.

You can get the most out of the vivid colours you choose by using them sparingly around the kitchen as a real eye catching feature.

If you are looking for more of a country style kitchen then warming colours are your best option.

Yellows, reds and oranges will create a kitchen that feels welcoming, which is one of the main principles of the country style.

These vibrant colours would be best contrasted alongside neutral kitchen fittings, with a simple wood finish being the perfect combination with the glowing walls.

A kitchen with plenty of natural light will be best suited to pale colours on the walls to take advantage of the brightness.

These lighter tones will create the perfect breakfast room that will be perfect for that cup of tea on a morning when the kitchen is flooded in natural light.

Pale yellows or off-whites would work well if this is the look you want.

The key to the use of colour in the kitchen is making sure that there is some sort of contrast that will stop the room from looking samey and will make the most out of whatever tones you have used.
